Access Control systems are generally different to Door Entry Systems as they utilise pre- programmed computer technology in the decision and logging process for ingress and egress removing the human factor from the decision making process.

These systems can be standalone or integrated with other systems within a building, premises or car park and monitor or restrict movement throughout premises. The advantage is that security access levels can be set allowing some people greater or lesser access to areas within the premises than others.

These types of system are of prime importance when persons seek to secure important, confidential, or sensitive information, expensive equipment, access to areas and resources in any given physical facility such as a computer room, private office, or there is simply no reason for access other than to those authorised, sterile working areas for instance.
